Prisons Project: Call for Consultants
The Eurasian Harm Reduction Network (EHRN) is starting to implement the UNODC funded project “Ensuring relevant authorities act to contain the HIV/ TB/Hepatitis C epidemics among drug users and in prison settings in Albania, Serbia and the FYR of Macedonia” and is looking for an expert/ consultant knowledgeable in issues of harm reduction in prisons to lead and implement some of the project activities. Update: Strategic Meeting of Public Security and Drug Policy, Rio de Janeiro, 19-21 September
The meeting was a great success and afforded excellent networking with like-minded colleagues from Latin America, Europe and the UK. Issues discussed included community policing initiatives, drug education in schools, harm reduction initiatives such as heroin trials and safe injecting facilities. Outcomes of the meeting included a declaration about the ‘way forward’ for the UPP (Police Pacifer Units), including a re-think about the so-called ‘war on drugs’.
